Co-located event: LOBSTER Tutorial

Title: Passive Network Traffic Monitoring
Date: 6 May 2005 Stockholm, Sweden

Abstract: The target of this tutorial was to introduce network managers and network administrators to the principles and practice of passive network traffic monitoring, i.e. monitoring based on full packet capture and inspection. The tutorial covered several aspects related to full packet passive monitoring, including:

1. hardware support,
2. software tools, and
3. higher level applications.

The tutorial started with the current state-of-the-art, reviewed off-the-shelf solutions and continued with results from recent efforts of the research community. This tutorial was organised by the consortium of LOBSTER, a European IST Project on Large-Scale Monitoring of Broadband Internet Infrastructures.
