More Amsterdam historic information
Rembrandt portrayed a very creative and original style in his artwork.
In his paintings, Rembrandt expressed himself. He put feeling into his
artwork. When you look at his artwork, you can tell what his mood was.
When he uses dark colors, usually the circumstance in sadness, but when
he uses light colors, happiness is expressed. Rembrandt’s earlier
works were frequently done in black or red chalk. Although in his later
paintings, Rembrandt used pen and ink on white paper, often in combination
with brushstroke.
Some of his earlier paintings include “Portrait of a Man and His
Wife” and “Saskia as Flora”. These are only on a few
out of very many. A few of his later pieces include “Lady with
a Pink” and “Man with a Magnifying Glass”. Over all,
1,400 paintings were accomplished. Timeline Rembrandt van Rijn:
- 1606: July 15, Rembrandt van Rijn was born.
- 1625: he went to work with Pieter Lastman.
- 1631: with the autumn, Rembrandt settles in Amsterdam,
in the painter and merchant of tables Hendrick van Uylenburgh.
- 1634: July 10, 1634, Rembrandt marries Saskia van Uylenburgh,
which gives rise to three children, died in low age.
- 1639: buy a large house in Sint Anthoniebreestraat in Amsterdam.
- 1641: Saskia gives the day to Titus, the son of Rembrandt,
baptized on September 22, 1642.
- 1642: Saskia dies of phthisis, at the 30 years age.
- 1643-1649: lives with Geertje Dircx, widowed young person
without children. From 1646, the financial difficulties of Rembrandt
become increasingly
serious. Hendrickje Stoffels enters to the service of Rembrandt:
it raises Titus and Rembrandt makes his mistress of it.
- 1654: Hendrickje Stoffels gives rise to Cornelia. Rembrandt
takes part as supplier in the trade of objets d'art opened by Hendrickje
Stoffels.
- 1656: Rembrandt is put in bankruptcy, because of his debts:
its significant collection of works of art and its house are put at
the biddings. Rembrandt
sees his order book being reduced.
- 1657: Rembrandt is put in supervision by Hendrickje Stoffels
and his son, Titus.
- 1662: death of Hendrickje Stoffels.
- 1664: Rembrandt settles in Rosengracht, then in Lauriergracht.
- 1669: Rembrandt dies in October, at the 63 years age. He
is buried on October 8 in the Wester church in Amsterdam.
