The European Operators Forum (EOF) is a forum where new technology
developments of interest to IP network operators are presented and
discussed. The EOF has no formal charter or chair. The agenda is
coordinated by a programme committee led by Rob Blokzijl, RIPE Chair.
Participation is open to all interested parties. The EOF is normally a day
and a half session that takes place prior to scheduled Working Group
meetings. The Programme Committee welcomes input for possible topics
and can be reached at eof-coord@ripe.net.
RIPE 42 EOF Draft agenda
Chair: Peter Lothberg
10:00 - 15:30 : Advanced BGP Topics Tutorial
Speaker: Daniel Walton (Cisco)
Abstract:
Advanced BGP Topics Tutorial - The tutorial will not cover the details
of how BGP works but will focus on more advanced topics such as troubleshooting
and convergence. Examples will be given of how to troubleshoot common
BGP problems that operators may see every day.
Convergence will be discussed in terms of common bottlenecks for BGP
convergence/scalability and how to fix them.
Intended Audience: Network engineers and operators with working knowledge
of BGP and experience deploying/troubleshooting/maintaining the protocol.
Table of Contents:
1. Troubleshooting
- peer establishment
- missing routes
- inconsistent route selection
- route oscillation and routing loops
2. Convergence/Scalability
- peer-groups
- TCP path mtu discovery
- Input queue drops
- UPDATE packing
- UPDATE replication
16:00 - 17:30: Pseudowires and L2TPv3
Speakers: Mark Townsley (Cisco) & Gilles Deworm (KPNQWEST)
Abstract:
Emulation of various layer 2 link types ("pseudo-wires") over IP presents
an interesting and potentially valuable choice for Internet service
providers looking to consolidate disparate networks or provide new
services over a common infrastructure.
The Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) defined by the IETF provides
a necessary basis for tunneling capabilities used in "pseudo -wire"
emulation over IP. First used for emulation of PPP data links over
IP, L2TP is being adopted for a number of new data link services,
including Frame Relay, ATM, Ethernet, and others.
This discussion will provide a technical overview of L2TPv3, as well
as a peek into how it is currently being utilised for pseudo-wire
services. A brief overview of the PWE3 (pseudo-wire edge to edge)
activity in the IETF will also be presented.
