I would tend to agree with you.
The differences that we are talking about are rather small
and it shouldn't be such a big deal to change the very
few existing client programs long before the new database
software is put in action in a production environment.

I would expect the parallel database to be running more like
a beta version for a little while. This has
to be done anyways, even if we would be totally compatible
according to the official extension guideleines.
