unknown/undocumented AS numbers

    Dear colleagues,

    does anybody have a hint for me where all those "unknown"/undocumented
    (usually 5digit) AS numbers are coming from ? Who is assigning them ?
    How can they be identified ? Sorry if this is a very stupid question,
    but I simply don't know where else to look for them (just an example, by
    "accident" I do know that AS11042 is used by LoralOrion):

$ whois -h whois.ripe.net -a AS11042
[...]
% No entries found for the selected source(s).
[...]

$ whois -h whois.ra.net -a AS11042
%% No entries found for the selected source(s).

$ whois -h whois.arin.net AS11042
[...]
No match for "AS11042".
[...]

    Kind regards
    Christian
