Dear All,
below is the hostcount for January 2000.
The table shows an increase since last month of over 540,000
(or 5.3%) to a total of around 10,820,000 hosts in the DNS
in Europe and surrounding areas.
The -it- domain shows the highest increase for January with
approximately 220,000 hosts more than in December.

- Brief Notes on this Hostcount -
Once again, our apologies for the unavoidably late result
of this hostcount, caused by the increasing resource needs
as large TLD's expand.
As usual, major swings in several TLD's can be largely
attributed to the effects of AXFR blocking, for example...
- an ISP that runs secondary for many zones blocks or
allows zone transfers to the counting machines's IP
on its nameserver.
- large organisations with many hosts block or allow zone
transfers to the counting machine's IP on all their
nameservers.
