Dear All,
below is the hostcount for October 1999.
The table shows an increase since last month of over 470,000
(or 4.9%) to a total of more than 10,000,000 (cheer!) hosts in
the DNS in Europe and surrounding areas.
The -it- domain shows the highest increase for October with
approximately 180,000 hosts more than in September.

- Brief Notes on this Hostcount -
We apologise for the delay in publication of the hostcount this month.
Delays are becoming increasingly frequent due to the sheer size of
the zones meaning that resource requirments are extremely large for
some TLDs.
And again, the exceptionally large raise this month can only be
partially attributed to the lateness of publication, since most
of the TLD data was collected at the usual time.
Please remember that last month, no data could be published for
-uk- or -be- which probably also influences the count for this month
positively (though by no means decisively).
Finally, it's a little early to start celebrating making 10,000,000
hosts before the millenium, since the count could potentially go
down next month :-)
