Dear All,
below is the *revised* hostcount for November 1998.
The table had to be revised because it previous
incorrectly reported one TLD (gw) as having
approximately 40000 hosts, when in fact no hosts could
be counted.
The table shows an increase since last month of over
120,000 (or 1,6%) to a total of almost 7,770,000 hosts
in the DNS in Europe and surrounding areas.
The de domain now shows the highest increase for November
with approximately 25,000 hosts more than in October.
A complication of circumstances resulted in me not being
able to get *any* data for cz, thus the table shows last
months values.
- Brief Notes on this Hostcount -
This month we have added 47 TLDs to the 54 which have been
fairly constant for some years. We would expect this to result
in a boost to the overall increase for this month, but in
fact the increase is around the usual range, due to the
'traditional' TLDs having lower increases than usual (another
demonstration that the per-month figures are less interesting
than the long-term trend).
The table this month has a few extra features to highlight
the newcomers:
- The new TLDs are indicated with a '+' in the far left column.
- There are two subtotal lines before the grand total. The
first indicates what the hostcount *would* have been without the
newcomers. The second shows the total contribution of the
newcomers to the overall count.
- The 'CHANGE' field for TLDs that were introduced this month
is the same as the 'REAL' field (the number of non-duplicate
hosts counted), because for the purposes of the hostcount they
had 0 hosts last month.
