14:00-18:00 PLENARY..................................SMALL HALL
- How to bring Research Networking into the year 2000 -
INVITATION TO ALL INTERESTED PARTIES
To make sure that research networks and associated networks in Europe
retain the leading edge, and that we develop, test and implement
applications and services that can evolve into the European
Information Super Highway, it is essential that ongoing network
developments in Europe are coordinated.
Therefore the Rare Technical Committee (RTC) Proposes an initiative
with the following goals:
- To stimulate cooperation between RARE member organizations and
industrial partners who have, or intend to have, initiatives in the
field of advanced network applications, in order to improve the
impact and quality of their projects.
To achieve this RARE will act as a focal point for gathering and
distributing information on initiatives and projects amongst its
member organizations and European industrial partners - thus
facilitating liaisons between parties with complementary and/or
similar projects/initiatives. It is RARE's intention that this will
lead to a number of consortia (NOT including RARE) for pan-European
projects that include research and academic institutions in
collaboration with industry.
Coordination between various national and regional initiatives will
result in services from which the whole of the RARE user community
can benefit. The RARE Working Groups will provide assistance in
producing proposals.
- To establish a basis for a RARE project for coordination between
the various pan-European projects.
Between the projects that will be established, coordination is
needed in various issues like models, standards, implementor
(vendor-neurtral) support, user support and dissemination of
results. RARE as the international association for Research
networks is in an excellent position to do this coordination.
The objective of this plenary meeting is to stimultate interest from
research and industrial participants for this RTC initiative.
It is stressed that access to the meeting is NOT restricted to RARE
members in particular, industrial orgnizations with an interest in
pursuing such initiatives/projects are encouraged to participate.
