IETF nominations committee

In March next year half of the current IAB and the current IESG positions
are up for nominations. Currently there is one European in the IAB
(Christian Huitema) and one in the IESG (me). I think that is too little of
a European involvement, and we need to get more Europeans involved. So I
plead with you all to help in achieving this, at least if you are supportive
of the IETF.

There are two ways you can help:
1) put your name up for the nominations committee. This committee is soon to
be installed and will be drawn at random from those who volunteer. The
committee will propose the candidates for the IAB and IESG. It is very
important in my view that we get enough European names in "the hat" before
they start to draw this committee. For more details see the message below.

2) put your name up for nomination into the IESG or IAB. We need good people
there. I realise that this is not a simple request, but if you even think
you might be interested and want more info on such a "job" (no payment
involved :-), don't hesitate to contact me.

Prettige Kerstdagen en een gelukkig 1994,

Erik

Subject: IAB/IESG Nominations Committee Chairman Appointed

Dear Internauts and Internet Community members,

I am pleased to announce that Fred Baker of ACC, Inc., has
accepted the responsibility to chair the 1994 IAB/IESG
nominations committee. This is, as always, an ambitious
undertaking and now it is your responsibility to accept
your own professional responsibilities to assist in any
way you can.

1. Persons who have attended at least 2 IETF meetings in
the last 5 years are eligible to volunteer to serve on
the nominations committee. Volunteers should send email
to: fbaker@localhost with appropriate contact information
(email address, work telephone, work fax, home telephone,
home fax, postal address for any correspondence). The list
of volunteers will be verified as to qualification using
the IETF secretariat attendance records at CNRI. A nominations
committee will be formed from a randomly selected subset of
the qualified volunteers.

2. Paul Mockapetris and Jeff Case are acting as advisors
(to serve as "corporate memory" of the 1993 committee).

It is vital to identify qualified committee candidates
from all constituents of the Internet community, especially
those from outside the US since this segment is not always
adequately represented.

A list of IESG positions to be filled and IAB positions to
be reconsidered will be published shortly. Please give
serious consideration to possible candidates to fill these
posts and make these suggestions known to Fred, who will
share them with the committee.

I wish each of you a most joyous holiday season and prosperous
new year!

Cordially,

Vint Cerf
President
Internet Society
