I suspect Olivier is right. One of Ireland's two Internet gateways
reports external traffic as 4.5 Gbytes for Nov 92; it is reckoned
that most of this traffic is with and via NSFnet. Hank reports
1.6 Gbytes to and from Ireland, and this may not include some
VMnet stuff, but Ireland's other gateway is for NetNews, which
seems to average about 1 Gbyte a month or more.
