Hi!

> The RIPE NCC has prepared a draft document titled "Improved Secure
> Communication System for RIPE NCC Members":

I'm not having much time to follow RIPE discussions so please
flame me for being intrusive and badly informed off-list.

It basically suggests to use X.509 for security issues.

The following URL points to a text which describes that
X.509 is a difficult spec from the exactness point of view.

http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/x509guide.txt

Is there are reason to not use OpenPGP for security ? I'd prefer
things that are based on free (as in Free Software) and readable
standards. There might be a time when I have to depend on this.

Can anyone point me to the reason for X.509 instead ?
