A lot of people do write their own tools but Men and Mice is one that 
is commercial and does support IPv6. It's not really a question of
build or buy here, since any reasonably large network will have to
do some tool development around IP addresses, but if you can buy 
a commercial package that has hooks, then you solve the standard
issues quickly and still have the flexibility to integrate it into
your howmegrown tools.
