Isn't this why they invented roles ? and if you are no longer part
of
that role I see no reason to keep the person object.
You do not see the confusion that occurs when a long-lasting handle
is broken through deletion, and has to be replaced the next time it
is needed?
For long lasting stuff ie things that need to survive personal
changes, hostile takeovers and such you should use role-accounts.
Basically what you are saying is "don't delete anything", sorry we
have passed that point years ago.
I do not see how you can interpret my suggestion "freeze for a
suitable fee" as "don't delete anything". Additionally, even if
undeletion were free, only a small percentage of persons would be
likely to request it.
Would EUR 1 million per frozen object be enough to overcome your
objection? If yes, then I guess we agree in principle, although the
amount should be adjusted to a reasonable one.
This is about data quality and privacy not about money.
Unreferenced objects will be
deleted
to prevent polution and an ever growing database.
It is obvious that a database such as this one will be ever growing.
As a comparison, not many domain registries advocate forced
deregistration of domain names as a means to keep their database
lean. Please also note that undeletion would not increase the size
of the database compared to having deleted person objects recreated
with new handles.
Obviously, objects that no one expects to need should be removed.
However, the database should serve the needs of RIPE and the
industry at large, not the other way around. Consequently, it is
unreasonable to delete objects in situations where such deletion
creates problems for members of the community.
So if un object us unreferenced the assumption is made it's no longer
needed and removed after a X amount of time, up until now you could
easily create a new one when needed. Because of privacy and identy
theft this has been changed and you can no longer re-create an object.
So yes there might be a need for a procedure where you can restore
objects which got removed unintentionally but then again I don't see
the reason to keep them around for ages nor do I see a reason to ask
money for it.
