Dear collegues,

Some of you may know me as a network operator for a medium-sized ISP in
.nl, but now I am writing you with a different hat.

As a parttime student, I have the task of performing a scientific
research in 'my working field'. Before I do, I really need some
third-party opinions regarding my plan.

What I want to do basically comes down to a fake-spamrun. I want to
register a domain, setup a small website and spam as much as a can for
it. Then I will do the following:

- measure the number of hits
- measure the number of abusecomplaints (they end up in my mailbox
  anyway ;)
- measure the number of removerequests
- measure any other cool stuff I can come up with

and of course, write a cool report on it, differentiated by origins and
stuff.

While this sounds like a cool project, I have my ethical doubts around
it. Spamming is spamming, and by spamming I will use up other people's
resources. OTOH Asking them to opt-in is of course not an option, then 
the goal of the research will be completely gone.

So, what's the opinion on this list about this? Your replies are welcome
in private as this list is *anti*-spam ;)
