Do politicians understand statistics when they are merely shown
the digits?
I don't think they understand too much of anything. But they must understand
simple everyday situations. So try to convince them that painting ads on
the windshields of parking cars should be made legal, provided the perpetrator
is clearly identified in the painting and the car would be removed from
his list of cars to be decorated in the future on request. After all the
car is available to all, it is parked in the street (a public place), "(auto)mobile
advertising" would undeniably promote business and as a last resort, the
owner can still remove the painting in case it doesn't hit his fancy.
If the guy refuses to support the case, the only thing you have to do
is to point out that opt-out spamming is just the same in every respect.
However, if he gets enthusiastic about mobile ads...
