From fay at ripe.net Thu Mar 4 10:32:08 1999 From: fay at ripe.net (Fay Howard) Date: Thu, 04 Mar 1999 10:32:08 +0100 Subject: DNSO decision Message-ID: <199903040932.KAA20174@birch.ripe.net> All, The ICANN board have just held a press confeence following a closed board meeting at which, some decisions were reached on the DNSO. Both Applications ("BMW" and"Paris") were considered, along with all comment received including the Singapore Consensus document based on the CENTR principles. At the press conference, they distributed the DNSO Formation Concepts which will be posted to the ICANN Website overnight (www.icann.org). These concepts provide some structuring and mechanisms for ICANN to amend theri bylaws to recognise the DNSO. It is interesting to note that most of the CENTR princcciples are included, most notably, spearate cconstituencies for ccTLDs and gTLDs. THere will be a General ASsemblyin which anyone can contribute work but without voting rights. The Names Coucnil will act as a steering committee managing consensus and making recommendations ot ICANN. We now need to move to organising our constituency. The ICANN will call the first General Assembly meeting of the DNSO in Berlin during their scheduled meeting, 25 - 27 May 1999. AS you know, it is hoped to stage a CENTR meeting around this event giving members the opportunity to attend the ICANN events. We are off to the bar to celebrate the fact theat we no longer have to attend DNSO formation meetings :-) Fay PS DEnnis was a star! -------- Logged at Thu Apr 15 16:11:33 CEST 1999 ---------
