New structure of the RIPE NCC - Contributors meeting

Dear RIPE NCC Contributors,
On 23 April 1997 Paul Ridley sent you an announcement of document ripe-156,
which is a first report on the way in which the RIPE NCC could be set up as
a separate legal entity. This document is now being discussed
electronically among the RIPE NCC Contributors.
A summary of the document will also be discussed in the General Assembly of
TERENA, which will meet in Edinburgh on 15-16 May 1997. As you are aware,
the RIPE NCC service is now being provided by TERENA employees, and any
decisions on the split-off of the RIPE NCC from TERENA will have to be
taken by the TERENA General Assembly. It is expected that these formal
final decisions will be taken in October, but the TERENA General Assembly
meeting in May offers an opportunity to discuss the plans and give the
go-ahead to investigate further the ideas that are explained in document
ripe-156.
RIPE NCC Contributors may wish to discuss the plans from ripe-156 not only
electronically but also in a face-to-face meeting. Therefore TERENA's
Vice-President for Services and Chairman of the RIPE NCC Contributors
Committee, Steve Druck invites you to a meeting of the RIPE NCC
Contributors to discuss these plans. The idea is to have an opportunity to
have a presentation of the plans thus far, and an exchange of views on the
matter; decision taking will not be part of the meeting.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday morning 14 May 1997, 1030-1230
hours, in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, The Exchange,
Morrison Street, Edinburgh EH3 8EE, Scotland (room will be announced on the
notice board in the conference centre).
If you would like to attend this meeting, please return the form below to
vietsch@localhost BEFORE WEDNESDAY 7 MAY 1997. This will enable us to
decide on the size of the room needed. [Also, if only a very small number
of RIPE NCC Contributors show an interest in attending, the meeting will be
cancelled; in this case we will inform you by e-mail on 7 May 1997.]
