Short content description
-------------------------

This announcement was originaly sent to the RIPE List and we're now
also sending it to the RIPE NCC Contributor's Committee and Local IR
to make sure it reaches everyone necessary.

A new document, ripe-140, an updated version of "ripe-136" is now
available in the RIPE document store. The original contents of this
document regarding the policies and procedures for the distribution of
public IP address space in Europe and surrounding areas, were approved
by the RIPE community during the RIPE-23 meeting held in January 1996
and later updates were approved by the Local Internet Registry Working
Group.

The document contains eight sections which describe the European
Internet Registry system, policies and procedures for address space
assignments and allocations, procedures for reverse delegations
related to the address space, Internet Registry operations, AS number
assignments, and Routing Registry policies and procedures. The
document should be used as a reference by all Local IRs in the RIPE
community.
