From Mirjam.Kuehne at ripe.net Fri Jun 5 13:39:14 1998 From: Mirjam.Kuehne at ripe.net (Mirjam Kuehne) Date: Fri, 05 Jun 1998 13:39:14 +0200 Subject: allocation policy change Message-ID: <199806051139.NAA01384@x18.ripe.net> [Appologies for any duplicates.] Dear Local Internet Registries, As discussed at the last LIR-WG in Stockholm, the RIPE NCC is considering to change the policy for allocation requests as currently described in ripe-159: 4.3. Further Allocations A Local IR can obtain additional allocations as required. A request should be submitted to the RIPE NCC when the currently allocated address space is nearly used up (about 90 percent), or if a single assignment will require a larger set of addresses than can be satisfied with the allocated address space. A usage of 90% was felt very high by the LIR-WG. This has been discussed with the other regional registries (ARIN & APNIC). ARIN requires currently that 80% of previously allocated address space has been used, APNIC requires 75% (for historical reasons). We all agreed that this should be align throughout the regional registries. Therefor the RIPE NCC suggests to lower the usage to 80%. In order to make this change effective, the policy document (ripe-159) has to be changed. We are planning to do this as soon as possible, but certainly before the next RIPE Meeting in September. Until then the old policy will be in place. Please watch the mailing list for the announcement. Kind Regards, Mirjam Kuehne RIPE NCC From Mirjam.Kuehne at ripe.net Fri Jun 5 13:39:14 1998 From: Mirjam.Kuehne at ripe.net (Mirjam Kuehne) Date: Fri, 05 Jun 1998 13:39:14 +0200 Subject: allocation policy change Message-ID: <199806051139.NAA01384@x18.ripe.net> [Appologies for any duplicates.] Dear Local Internet Registries, As discussed at the last LIR-WG in Stockholm, the RIPE NCC is considering to change the policy for allocation requests as currently described in ripe-159: 4.3. It can indicate what type of mail is sent to the RIPE hostmasters and check wether it is a RIPE-141-Template or an ordinary EMail. I assume this robot is written in PERL. Now i'd like to know if it is possible to provide the source of this robot for download for all other LIR's? Maybe it could be usefull for us/them. -- Ludger Bornhorst, Deutsche Telekom AG, ZDK Zentrum fuer Datenkommunikation, Oldenburg, Germany Tel.: +49 441/234-5678 Fax : +49 441/27463 From Maldwyn.Morris at ripe.net Tue Jun 9 17:23:18 1998 From: Maldwyn.Morris at ripe.net (Maldwyn Morris) Date: Tue, 09 Jun 1998 17:23:18 +0200 Subject: RIPE NCC distribution robot In-Reply-To: Your message of Tue, 09 Jun 1998 16:29:55 +0200. <357D46E3.6DF7@t-online.de> References: <357D46E3.6DF7@t-online.de> Message-ID: <199806091523.RAA15143@x20.ripe.net> Hi all, Ludger Bornhorst wrote: > On last RIPE-Meeting in Stockholm i heard about a new > mail distribution robot at the RIPE NCC. For your further information, the robot - for which we use the catchy name "autohmdist" - seems to be working fine, apart from one problem caused by x400 failure messages which we will install a fix for tomorrow. > It can indicate > what type of mail is sent to the RIPE hostmasters and check > wether it is a RIPE-141-Template or an ordinary EMail. Or any of the other mails we deal with - see: http://www.ripe.net/lir/services/status.html > I assume this robot is written in PERL. Yes. We use Perl 5.004 on BSD 2.1 and BSD 3.1. > Now i'd like to know > if it is possible to provide the source of this robot for > download for all other LIR's? Maybe it could be usefull for > us/them. We are currently cataloging all our internal software and when that is done we plan to begin releasing to the community the tools that may be useful for them. A problem for potential users of these tools is the use made by each tool of other internal and external tools. The mail robot, for example, requires sendmail, rtt - the ticketing system manager, reg - the registry database manager, auto-hm - the 141 request handler, and these tools also make use of other tools. Also note that our internal tools are written and tested on BSD only.
