  From what I gathered about our last serious attack, the problem was
that the postmaster account filled up, the queues then filled up and the
mailers refused more connections (Petra will correct me if I'm wrong).

  No problem with pipes ;-).

  The simple solution is probably to install (much) more disk for
postmaster (they'll love it :-) and make sure they can script...
