The RDNS Project
The Reverse Domain Name System (RDNS) project was an effort to
streamline reverse DNS operations and make it easier for network
range users to manipulate related domain objects.
There were two parts to the project:
- The introduction of a new authorisation mechanism for domain
objects
- A clean up of inconsistencies between data in domain
objects as stored in the whois database and reverse delegation
information in the DNS

Clean-up
The RIPE NCC undertook a consistency clean-up between 7 January
and 1 March 2004. This was necessary to use the whois database as
an authoritative source for the generation of zone data.
