2008

Since 29 April 2008 at 1:00 UTC, mails sent to and from ripe.net addresses are delayed. We are investigating the problem.
29 April 2008

Between 1:00 and 11:00 (UTC), mails sent to and from ripe.net addresses were delayed.

2 April 2008

Between 10:00-13:00 (UTC) we have performed a scheduled maintenance on the RIPE Database and IPv6 query was not possible. The RIPE Database remained accessible via IPv4 as usual.

14-16 March 2008

Since Friday, 14 March at 15:50 UTC, a power failure caused intermittent outages and error messages for users of the LIR Portal.

Update - Monday, 17 March:
The problem now appears to be resolved, though we continue to investigate and will follow up, if necessary.

1 March 2008 Between 10:00 and 18:00 (UTC), we have performed a scheduled maintenance on our core storage infrastructure.
During this period, www.ripe.net, ftp.ripe.net, lirportal.ripe.net, e-learning.ripe.net were unavailable at times. The performance of dnsmon.ripe.net was degraded during this time.
27 February 2008 Between 17:00 and 19:00 (UTC), we have replaced our web server (www.ripe.net). The change also resulted in a new URL for the syncupdates service. Please see our message on db-wg mailing list for more details.
16 February 2008 Between 10:00 and 18:00 (UTC), we have performed a scheduled maintenance on our core storage infrastructure.
During this period, www.ripe.net, ftp.ripe.net, lirportal.ripe.net, e-learning.ripe.net were unavailable at times. The performance of dnsmon.ripe.net was degraded during this time.
9 February 2008 Between 10:00 and 17:00 (UTC), we have been doing some maintenance on our central fileserver. During this period www.ripe.net, ftp.ripe.net, e-learning.ripe.net and lirportal.ripe.net were intermittently unavailable.
26 January 2008 Between 09:00 and 19:00 (UTC), we have been migrating a number of servers to a new suite at the TeleCity2 co-location facility in Amsterdam.
  • All BGP peering sessions with telrtr.ripe.net (AS3333 at 195.69.144.71 and 2001:7f8:1::a500:3333:2)
  • Authoritative DNS Services (ns.ripe.net, ns-pri.ripe.net, ns-sec.ripe.net)

9 January 2008 Between 17:00 and 18:00 UTC, we have been performing a software upgrade for New LIR software. LIR Portal and Reg/Customer database was unavailable during this time.

19 December 2007 Between 17:00 and 19:00 UTC, we have been performing maintenance work to the LIR Portal. lirportal.ripe.net was unavailable during this time.
12 December 2007 Between 18:00 and 20:00 UTC, we have been performing maintenance work on some RIPE NCC service.
10 December 2007 Between 17:00 and 19:00 UTC, we have been rebooting the Routing Information Service (RIS) server to boot on an IPv6-enabled kernel.
5 December 2007 The RIPE NCC performed a planned network maintenance work on Wednesday, 5 December 2007, from 18:00 - 20:00 (UTC).
24 November 2007 Between 10:00 and 17:00 UTC, we have been performing maintenance work on our web servers. www.ripe.net ftp.ripe.net elearning.ripe.net lirportal.ripe.net dnsmon.ripe.net was unavailable during this time.
22 November 2007 Between 9:00 and 18:00 UTC, we have been performing maintenance work on the LIR Portal and the service was unavailable during this time.
4 October 2007 We upgraded our DNSMON service. Between 09:00 and 09:30 UTC users were unable to access either the old or new servers.
26 September 2007 We updated our DNS server ns.ripe.net between 17:00 and 18:00 (UTC). During this period, it wasn't able to answer some DNS queries.
25 September 2007 We performed a software upgrade on the LIR Portal between 16:00 and 20:00. The LIR Portal and related services, such as registration for RIPE Meetings, RIPE NCC General Meetings and RIPE NCC Training Courses, were not unavailable during this period.
19 September 2007 We updated our DNS server ns.ripe.net between 17:00 and 18:00 (UTC). During this period, it was not able to answer DNS queries.
12 September 2007 We updated our DNS server ns-tld.ripe.net between 17:00 and 17:15 (UTC). During this period, it was not able to answer DNS queries.
5 September 2007 We updated our DNS server ns-sec.ripe.net between 17:00 and 17:15 (UTC). During this period, it was not able to answer DNS queries.
5 September 2007 From 17:30 - 19:30 (UTC), the RIPE NCC performed planned network maintenance.
30 August 2007

Following the recent LIR Portal software update, some organisation objects were updated . If an object contains a "notify:" attribute, you will receive an e-mail alerting you to the update. To verify or update your contact details, please log in to LIR Portal from Thursday, 30 August 2007.

The reason for the upgrade is to implement a standardised format for contact details in the RIPE NCC internal registry database. The ORGANISATION objects in the RIPE Database will then be synchronised to reflect the updated contact details in the registry database.

You may be notified if the ORGANISATION object relating to your organisation has been updated as part of this process. To verify or update your addresses, please log in to LIR Portal from Thursday, 30 August 2007.
29 August 2007 The LIR Portal and related services, such as meeting and training registration and the New LIR web application, were unavailable
between 17:00 and 20:00 due to a software update.
28 August 2007 From 17:00 - 18:00 (UTC), the RIPE NCC performed planned network maintenance.
22 August 2007 We upgraded the provisioning system for our DNS servers. There were no zone updates between 09:00 and 11:00 (UTC) on that day.
2 August 2007 The LIR Portal was unavailable between 14:30 and 15:30 (UTC). The issue has now been resolved and the LIR Portal is again accessible
30 July 2007

We performed a software upgrade on the LIR Portal between 17:00 and 20:00 (UTC). The LIR Portal and related services, such as meeting and training registration, were unavailable during this period.

11 July 2007 We conducted planned maintenance on the Routing Information Service (RIS). This involved a memory test on our collector connected to LINX (rrc01).
9 July 2007 Due to a network switch problem, we experienced a temporary loss of service between 11:41 and 12:15 (UTC). This affected our Layer 2 network and our services were unreachable during this period.
4 July 2007 The RIPE Database server is accessible over IPv6 again. From 09:12 (UTC) on 29 June 2007, the RIPE Database stopped responding to queries over IPv6. All other services (updates, queries over IPv4) were unaffected. This problem was due to a firewall-related issue in our Juniper routers.
20 June 2007 We carried out network resillience testing between 17:00 and 19:00 (UTC). During this time, there were brief interruptions to RIPE NCC services.
13 June 2007 Between 06:46 and 07:17 (UTC), www.ripe.net suffered intermittant outages due to what looked like abuse of the whois cgi. The problem is now resolved..
12 June 2007 We performed planned maintenance work between 17:00 and 19:00 (UTC). During this period the RIPE NCC ticketing system was not working, meaning that any changes in the status of open tickets were not be reflected in the LIR Portal. Any pending mails have since been processed.
7 June 2007 We performed planned maintenance work on our network infrastructure between 17:00 and 19:00 (UTC). During this period, www.ripe.net and associated sites, ftp.ripe.net, whois.ripe.net and Authorative DNS services as provided by the RIPE NCC were interupted.
6 June 2007 We performed planned maintenance work between 17:00 and 19:00 (UTC). During this period the RIPE NCC ticketing system was not working, meaning that any changes in the status of open tickets was not reflected in the LIR Portal. Any pending mails have been processed now that the maintenance work has been successfully completed.
5 June 2007 We performed planned maintenance work between 17:00 and 18:00 (UTC). This work affected a number of servers, resulting in a short outage of some RIPE NCC services. The work was successfully completed.
26 April 2007 From 21:30 (UTC) on 24 April 2007 until 10:20 (UTC) on 26 April 2007, e-mail updates sent by users to the RIPE Database update service were not processed by the RIPE Database.The problem was caused by some network adjustments affecting our firewall and mail servers.

This problem has now been resolved. ALL the updates submitted have now been processed. No updates were lost.

It had no effect on:
  • updates submitted using syncupdates or webupdates
  • changes made using the LIR Portal interface
  • changes made by the RIPE NCC Registration Services Department on behalf of RIPE NCC members
18 April 2007

Between 17:00 and 19:00 UTC, we renumbered the RIPE NCC E-Learning website. This resulted in a short outage while the new IP address filtered through DNS.

17 April 2007 Between 17:00 and 19:00 (UTC), we carried out maintenance work on our core network infrastructure. This work was due to the deployment of a new section of dark fibre between 2 of our PoPs, which was aborted on 11 April 2007.
11 April 2007 During network maintenance work, subscribers to the members-discuss@ripe.net mailing list received a message stating that they were no longer eligible for the list. This e-mail was sent in error. There is no need to re-subscribe or take any further action.We apologise for any misunderstanding.
12 April 2007 Between 18:00 and 20:00 (UTC), we carried out maintenance work. The following services were unavailable during this period:
  • Authoritative forward DNS services for ccTLD's hosted on all ns-ccTLD.ripe.net servers
  • Authoritative reverse DNS services hosted on ns-pri.ripe.net, ns-sec.ripe.net and ns.ripe.net
  • e-Learning.ripe.net services

The work led to a message being sent to subscribers to the member-discuss@ripe.net list being sent a mail informing them they had been unsubscribed. this was sent in error. Subscribers need take no action.

20 February 2007 Between 18:00 and 20:00 (UTC), we successfully upgraded the firmware to the latest version on all network switches at the Singel and Raadhuisstraat.
15 February 2007 On Thursday, 15 February users of dnsmon.ripe.net may have experienced a slower response time for certain plots and unavailability of long-term, pre-generated plots.

This was due to a problem with updating the DNSMON software that occurred on Wednesday, 14 February at 15:00 UTC.
13 February 2007 Between 21:00 and 23:00 (UTC), we carried out planned maintenance work on our core network infrastructure. RIPE NCC services were temporarily unavailable during this period. This work was necessary  to correct BGP load balancing issues between our NikHef and Telecity peering points.
8 February 2007

On 8, February 2007, some users experienced delays in receiving responses from RIPE NCC mail robots, including auto-dbm and hostmaster. The delays were caused by a large number of inetnum registrations that were submitted over a short period of time, slowin down our mail system. We have resolved the situation and processed all submitted requests. We are investigating how to prevent any repeat of this.

8 February 2007

Between 06:15 - 09:15 (UTC) on Thursday, 8 February 2007, it was not possible for users to log in to the LIR Portal. This problem has now been resolved, and the LIR Portal is working as normal.
