What training courses does the RIPE NCC offer to its members?

We provide various training courses to our members:

The "Local Internet Registry Training Course" is a one-day introduction to administrative procedures and policies related to obtaining and distributing Internet resources from the RIPE NCC (i.e. IP addresses, AS Numbers, reverse DNS delegation, etc) and operating an Local Internet Registry (LIR).

The "Routing Registry Training Course" covers the Internet Routing Registry (IRR) usage, related tools and Routing Policy Specification Language (RPSL).

The "IPv6 Training Course" is a one-day course based on examples and practical exercises in order to take away some of the fear related to IPv6 deployment and to enable you to think about your organisation's IPv6 deployment plan.

Which training course should I attend?

LIR Training Course: If your function is administrative, if you want to obtain Internet resources (IP addresses, AS Numbers, reverse DNS delegation).
Routing Registry Training Course: If your function is technical, and you want to learn to use the Routing Registry to help automate the configuration of your routers and to help troubleshooting.
The IPv6 Training Course: If you are part of the staff of a Local Internet Registry (LIR) and if you:
- Are thinking about deploying IPv6 in your organisation
- Have been told you need to deploy IPv6
- Need to convince your manager that IPv6 needs to be deployed
- Looked at an IPv6 address and thought it was too complicated to deploy in your network

The Training Course section of this site contains details of each of the courses offered, along with downloadable course materials and presentations. The course materials are periodically updated. If you previously attended a training course, you can download the latest up-to-date course materials.

How much does each course cost?
→
The cost of providing the LIR Training Course, the Routing Registry Training Course and IPv6 for LIRs Training Course is covered by the LIR membership fee. We charge no additional fees for attending a training course.
Each training course includes lunch and refreshments, however it does not cover your travel expenses to and from the course or any accommodation expenses.

How can I register for a training course?

To register for a training course please complete and submit the registration form by navigating to the "Upcoming Courses & Registration Form". We will send an email acknowledgement and further information to the email address you specify on the form.

Do I have to prepare anything before attending a training course?
→
- LIR Training Course: No
- Routing Registry Training Course: You have to bring your own equipment, please refer to the "Logistics" section of the the Routing Registry Training Course outline.
- IPv6 Training Course: No.

Where can I find the schedule of courses?

All upcoming courses are listed on this page.
The list of upcoming courses is also posted periodically to the membership announcement list, the the Address Policy Working Group mailing list and RIPE NCC Services Working Group mailing list.

How many people would normally attend each course?
→
Each training course has 20 to 25 available places. To find out more about the criteria for allocation of places on each course, see the "Training Registration Guidelines".

What is the duration of a typical training course?
→
The duration of all training courses is one day and takes place from 09:30 till 17:30 (attendees are asked to arrive by 09:00)
