IPv4

IPv4 address space for use on the Internet are distributed through a system of hierarchically organised Internet Registries.

As a Regional Internet Registry (RIR), the RIPE NCC allocates IPv4 address space to its members, the so-called "Local Internet Registries" (LIRs). The LIRs can assign IPv4 address space to End Users, and to their own network infrastructure.

A list of allocated IP addresses is available via FTP.

Requesting IPv4 address space from the RIPE NCC requires a contractual agreement with the RIPE NCC.

This can be either a membership agreement (if you become an LIR) or a Direct End User Assignment Agreement (only for independent resources).

The RIPE NCC service region covers Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia.

How to Request IPv4 Address Space

As a member of the RIPE NCC, you have access to the LIR Portal which provides an easy and secure way to request resources through a number of wizards. The wizards will help you complete, correct and submit your requests online. You can also send a request by email to our IP Resource Analysts (IPRAs). Please make sure that your email contains all the correct information to prevent any delays in processing requests. Direct Assignment Users do not get access to the LIR Portal; they will have to send their requests by email.

Any organisation within our service region may acquire address space from an Internet Service Provider or directly from the RIPE NCC. However, organisations that require IP address space directly from the RIPE NCC need to have a contractual agreement with the RIPE NCC. This can be either a membership agreement (if you become an LIR) or a Direct Assignment User Agreement.

It is recommended that only organisations that require large blocks of address space (2048 or more IPv4 addresses) apply for membership, although any organisation can apply.
