Also, the AfriNIC Board appointed Alan Barret to be the 3rd representative
of the AfriNIC region on the NRO Number Council. Mr. Barret will be
serving a 1-year term. |

| The ARIN Board of Trustees has appointed
Lee Howard as an interim member of the Address Supporting Organization
Address Council (ASO AC) from the ARIN region. He will serve a one-year
term starting 1 January 2005. This was decided at the board meeting
on 10 December 2004. This appointment is part of the transition
of the Address Council to its new organisation, described in the
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Internet Corporation
for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the Number Resource Organization
(NRO). This MoU was signed on 21 October 2004. |

| Through the Regional Internet number
Registry public policy forums, the ASO community is considering
global policy proposals that will govern how IANA allocates IPv6
address blocks to the RIRs. Proposals have been introduced in all
of the RIR communities. The proposals are currently being discussed
through RIR mailing lists, and the global IPv6 mailing list. ICANN
encourages all who are interested in IPv6 policy to join these discussions
and participate in the RIR public meetings where this issue has
been added to the agenda |

| The Address Council submitted the Global
Addressing Policy ASO-001-2 for the approval of the ICANN Board
of Directors. The policy describes the procedure by which IANA will
make IPv4 allocations to the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs).
ASO-001-2 has been approved in accordance with the four RIR's local
policy development processes. As a result of that effort, the policy
was endorsed and submitted by the Number Resource Organization to
the ASO Address Council. |

| APNIC Executive Council
decides to defer the ASO Address Council election |

| The next election for an Asia-Pacific
seat on the ASO Address Council is due to be held during the APNIC
18 meeting in Fiji in September 2004. However, pending the final
outcome of the MoU negotiations, the APNIC Executive Council has
decided to defer the AC election.
