Biographical information:
I have had Internet related jobs since my days as a student at the University
of Oslo. I began my career at the University Computing Centre for the
Norwegian research network UNINETT. In 1991 I was one of the founders
of one of the first Norwegian ISPs Oslonett, (LIR no.oslonett) where I
also worked as a consultant for the incumbent ISP (LIR no.telepost). I
was since Network Manager of Oslonett, later Schibsted Nett (LIR no.sn)
when acquired by the Nordic Media house Schibsted in 1995 until the ISP
business was spun off and sold to the incumbent Telenor in 1997.
I spent some few months as Department Manager Networks and Head of Design
Team for the new backbone project in Telenor. After the Telenor take over
I went back to the media side of the Schibsted Nett business which had
then become Scandinavia Online. There I was part of the network and system
operations which was spun off as a service company SOL System (later Infostream
ASP) to provide services to Scandinavia Online in Norway, Sweden, and
Denmark. In SOL System where I established a new LIR (no.sol ) as the
first ASP to act as its own ISP and establish peerings on the national
peering point.
From 2001 until 2003 I have been Technical Manager of Tiscali Norway (LIR
no.tiscali) and later Nordic Network Director in Tiscali, responsible for
the network Infrastructure in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Tiscali is a full
service ISP - primarily in the consumer market with Dial up, DSL and Satellite
Internet access products. My last project in Tiscali was a complete redesign
of the Tiscali backbone in Denmark and change of communication infrastructure
on all of Tiscali DKs DSL co-locations.
Since September 1st I have started a new job as IT Director in Visma
and General Manager of Visma IT. Visma IT is providing ERP services over
the Internet to internal and external clients in the Visma Group.
Motivation for nomination:
I have been actively involved in the RIPE community for several years.
I have been chair of the Address Policy Working Group and, before that,
chair of the LIR Working Group. I have been on the ASO Address Council
since the formation of the ASO - the first period as Chair, later as co-Chair.
In the past I have been part of several efforts to simplify and clarify
the processes and procedures for getting internet number resources. I
believe there is still a lot to be done in the area of Addressing Policy,
especially in clearly defining the process for making policy changes and
aligning policies on a global level.
I believe it is important to understand the effect different policies
and procedures have, not only on the global Internet, but also on the
economics of the individual ISPs, service providers, customers and end
users.
I can offer my experience and strong belief in transparency and open processes
to the community in order to further improve the policy formation process
in the RIPE region and on the global level.
Expressions of Support:
Sabine JAUME RAJAONIA - Renater <jaume@renater.fr>
Thanks to his day to day experience within his company and as chair of
the Address Policy Working Group of RIPE, Hans Petter Holen has a level
of expertise and knowledge that was very appreciated in the Adress Council
during the past years. It's worth renewing his term on the AC.
