Biographical information:
Born: June 10, 1951. Single.
I began work in 1974 as a software engineer at the University of Technology's
Computer Center, Department of Process Control and Real-time Data Acquisition.
I later progressed to system programming, system and user management,
and training for staff members and the user community.
I transferred to Vienna University when the operations and management
responsibility for the Austrian research & development network (ACOnet)
was transferred from the University of Technology to Vienna University,
approximately 10 years ago.
In parallel to my day-to-day job, I worked as an independent trainer
and continue to lecture (in IT technology) at the largest Fachhochschule
inAustria, FH - Wiener Neustadt.
In 1997, I was elected as a member of the RIPE NCC Executive Board. During
my term the RIPE NCC became an independent legal entity.
In 1999, I was elected as one of the 3 Address Council members for ICANN's
ASO.
My community service activities include:
- Co-ordination of "Special Interest Groups" (national and
German speaking region of DECUS) for real-time operating systems, software
engineering and tools,
- Chair of the RIPE Database Working Group (ongoing) and
- Serve as an arbiter in the framework of the "RIPE NCC Conflict
Arbitration Procedure".
My on-going activities and interests include:
- Management of ACOnet's Local Internet Registry (LIR) since 1993
- Participation in CERT coordination activities, both in Austria and
in the framework of TERENA and the "Trusted-Introducer" project
- Technical, operational and administrative aspects of IPv6, including
security
Motivation for nomination:
I maintain a very sound interest in ICANN-related issues in general,
and in the ASO in particular, although I have not always been happy with
ICANN's set-up and, more recently, the procedure and proposals for ICANN's
remodelling.
* Responsible for ACOnet's LIR set-up and operations (at ACOnet) since
early 1993,
* Contributed to the ripe-104++ (IP Address Space Assignment Procedures
for DNS Delegation in the IN-ADDR.ARPA Domain) editorial taskforce as
the Database Working Group chair and Database Security Task Force contributor,
and during the update process for the IPv6 address distribution policy
and procedures,
* Served on the initial RIPE NCC Executive Board after the RIPE NCC's
incorporation as a legal entity,
* Supporting and managing the introduction of IPv6 technology for Vienna
University's Computer Centre - ACOnet (which is part of a large research
project), and focusing on logistical aspects such as DNS, Reverse DNS,
IPv6 address management and operational security.
I believe I have a reasonable amount of historical and up-to-date experience
in IP address management, IP address allocation procedures and in the
development of address distribution policies and procedures in general.
I would be proud to continue representing the RIPE community's interests
within the framework of ICANN's ASO with regard to IP addressing issues.
Best Regards,
Wilfried Woeber
