How can I change my organisation Reg-ID?

The Reg-ID is only an internal identifier and is of no value externally. Changing this identifier causes a lot of internal administrative work and can create archiving problems.

It can be difficult to track the history of a registry that has changed it's Reg-ID. It is important that the archives are in order, so that RIPE NCC staff can find all requests related to a registry even if the registry changes names several times.

Requests to make changes to your Reg-ID should be sent to hostmaster@ripe.net. Please note that the RIPE NCC will charge a fee for requests to change a LIR's Reg-ID.

What is a role object; can I use a role object as a registry contact (reg-contact)?
A role object is similar to the person object. (Further information about role and person objects can be found in "RIPE Database Reference Manual" located at:

http://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/databaseref-manual.html#1.2

A role object represents a company or a department within a company. However, it has an attribute "trouble" that may be used to provide contact information for operations staff.

See example:

        role: RIPE DBM
        address: Singel 258
        address: NL-1016 AB Amsterdam
        address: Kingdom of the Netherlands

A role object can be used as the technical contact (tech-c) for the registry file. The role object as any other registry contact must be registered in the RIPE Database.

A Registry can put a notify attribute in role objects pointing to. Whenever the Registry updates the contact information in the database the RIPE NCC would automatically receive notification about the change to the database object. If you would like to take advantage of this option please send an email to hostmaster@ripe.net.

Please note that the RIPE NCC can only implement this for your registry after notification by email.

What is a valid registry contact; who in my organisation should be a contact and how do I become a contact?
Valid registry contacts are the persons listed as admin-c and tech-c in the application form. The RIPE NCC keeps a form for each registry, called a Registry File. Each registered contact must have a person object registered in the RIPE Database. Information about person objects can be found at:

http://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/databaseref-manual.html#1.2

Persons that will be submitting requests for address space and AS numbers must be registered contacts for their Registry. If you wish to update any information in the Registry File an email must be sent by one of the current registered contacts to: hostmaster@ripe.net.

Information in the Registry File will only be used internally by the RIPE NCC and not stored publicly in any Database.

How does one go about merging, taking over or closing an LIR?
These cases have to be treated on a case by case basis, since there are different matters that need to be taken into account, such as billing issues, address space usage, routing, new service agreement, etc.

These are examples of different scenarios:

  • Registry closes completely,
  • Registry takes over another registry and one closes,
  • Registry takes over another registry and both remain open

In these three cases, please read http://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/mergers.html before contacting lir-help@ripe.net for assistance.

  • Non-registry takes over a registry.

In this case, please contact lir-help@ripe.net in order to discuss your specific case.

Note: Although your company name may change, you are not required to change your Reg-ID, as this is only a unique identifier within the RIPE NCC.

Where can I find more information about the RIPE NCC Audit Service?

Information regarding the RIPE NCC Audit Service can be found at:

http://www.ripe.net/rs/audit/index.html

How does the RIPE NCC charging scheme work?
The charges for LIRs are fixed annual charges to be paid in advance and based on the size category of a LIR. A minimum size category will be determined based on address space allocations held by the registry. New local registries are charged a sign-up fee and 25% of the yearly fee for each quarter that they are members. Their initial minimum size category will be SMALL. Enterprise registries are classified as small registries for charging purposes

The RIPE NCC sends invoices on a yearly, half-yearly or quarterly basis. Members may choose the most suitable billing scheme. A current version of the "RIPE NCC Activities, Expenditures, and Charging Scheme" is located in the RIPE document store.

Will I be charged more if I request additional address space?
No. The charges are fixed annual charges, based on the size category of the Local Registry. As a member of the RIPE NCC you are charged based on the services you receive from the RIPE NCC, not on the amount of addresses you obtain. For more information see the current version of the "RIPE NCC Activities, Expenditures, and Charging Scheme" located in the RIPE document store.
