The RIPE NCC and Internet Governance

The RIPE NCC's activities in Internet Governance are based on a commitment to enhancing the cooperation between the public and private sectors. The goal of these activities is to ensure the continued stability of the Internet.

Government Activities   OECD CISP The Working Party on Communication Infrastructure and Services Policy (CISP) is a government working party designed to help governments understand the future of the Internet economy.       Internet Governance Forum Its purpose is to support the United Nations Secretary-General in carrying out the mandate from the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) with regard to convening a new forum for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue.     RIPE NCC Roundtables These meetings explain how to participate in IP address management policy-making and discuss technical topics such as IP address space management and root server operations.		The RIPE NCC and Internet Governance 2007-2008 RIPE NCC Participating in OECD Working Party on IP Addresses   The RIPE NCC has been working with the Working Party on Communication Infrastructure and Services Policy (CISP), a government working party designed to help governments understand the future of the Internet economy.     The RIPE Enhanced Co-operation Task Force   The RIPE Task Force on Enhanced Cooperation was formed at RIPE 54 in May 2007 to advise on issues of enhanced cooperation between the RIPE community and relevant stakeholders, particularly governments and regulators.     2007 RIPE NCC Awarded Special Status from United Nations   In 2007, the RIPE NCC was awarded Special Consultative Status by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. With this consultative status, the RIPE NCC can designate official representatives to help advise the United Nations on issues related to Internet number resource management and the technical coordination of the Internet.     2006 RIPE NCC and the IGF   The RIPE NCC actively participated in the WSIS process and continues, along with its fellow Regional Internet Registries RIRs as part of the Number Resource Organization, to contribute to each IGF meeting.     2003 -2005 World Summit on the Information Society   The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) was held in two phases. The first phase took place in Geneva hosted by the Government of Switzerland from 10-12 December 2003, and the second phase took place in Tunis hosted by the Government of Tunisia, from 16-18 November 2005. RIPE NCC and the WSIS   The RIPE NCC participated in the WSIS on behalf of the RIPE NCC members and the Internet community as a whole. As a result of its activities in the WSIS, the RIPE NCC was nominated for an Internet Hero Award.
